Famous for hits such as “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “Sexual Healing,” Marvin Gaye was one of Motown’s biggest stars. But for him, success didn’t mean a happily ever after. In April 1984 his turbulent life was cut tragically short – and his own father had a hand in his demise.
Gaye came into the world in April 1939, the son of a minister named Marvin Gay Sr. and a domestic services professional called Alberta. At the time, his parents already had a young daughter whom they christened Jeanne. Two years later, another son called Frankie arrived, followed by a fourth child in 1945 called Zeola.
