After Kelly Ripa Got Body Shamed By Trolls, She Had The Perfect Response

TV host Kelly Ripa has plenty of fans, but it appears that she’s not universally loved. When trolls started picking on her over her appearance, however, they soon found themselves facing the sharp end of her wit. And as it turned out, she had absolutely no intention of letting them have the last word.

Ripa fronts the TV show Live with Kelly and Ryan with Ryan Seacrest. When off-screen, she loves sharing pictures of her life with her Spanish-born husband Mark Consuelos on social media. The couple recently marked their 22nd anniversary by posting tributes to one another, along with a video of their cutest moments.

The couple first met on the set of TV soap All My Children in the 1990s. Ripa has said that when Consuelos was auditioning for the show, she saw his photo and fell for him before they even met. Looking at the pictures that they shared to mark their anniversary, over two decades later, the couple appear to be as in-love as ever – and they now have three children.

Ripa, meanwhile, has seen similarly enduring success in her career. Back in 2000, it was her wit and “sparkle” that reportedly earned her her current job, appearing with Regis Philbin on what was then called Live with Regis and Kelly. And her quick wit and sense of humor have shown absolutely no sign of going away.

In recent years, Ripa and Consuelos have amassed a substantial online following – and they haven’t been shy about posting on social media. Indeed, Ripa, now 47, regularly posts updates for her millions of followers.

With millions of Instagram followers, the couple often receive thousands of positive responses to their posts. Commenting on a picture celebrating the couple’s anniversary, one dedicated fan wrote, “[I] loved Haley and Mateo [the pair’s characters on All My Children] but love Kelly & Mark so much more! Congratulations to two of the most amazing, talented, power couple out there!!!”

And Ripa seems to keep a keen eye on what happens on Instagram, both good and bad. Indeed, if she comes across someone who just has to find fault, she may very well respond. More than that, Ripa has in fact admitted that she has a love for mischief. “I love trolling a troll, it is my favorite thing to do,” she confessed in an Instagram video. Anyone who underestimates this star is clearly in for some trouble.

And comments about her appearance have been keeping Ripa busy. One post suggested that Ripa shouldn’t be wearing a bikini at the age of 47. Other users, however, leapt to her defence and praised her figure.

Indeed, Ripa’s husband gave her online critics a piece of his mind. “She works extremely hard in her professional life and her commitment to exercise [and a] healthy diet is admirable and the benefits show,” he wrote. “Yes, she’s wearing a bikini at age 47 and will no doubt wear one for many years to come.”

That wasn’t the only time that Ripa has come under fire for her appearance, however. In another instance, a user wrote, “Her head is to big for her tiny body.”On this occasion, Ripa herself got her own back – and her comeback clearly illustrated who had the most brains.

Ripa’s response was short and sweet. “To is spelled too FYI,” she retorted. And her quick-witted reply was soon drawing attention – as well as underlining the fact that she’s a stickler for good grammar. The comeback even had one user remarking, “Make America spell again!”

Users praised Ripa’s quick-witted approach and advised her that negative comments should be ignored. Other individuals voiced their support, writing, “Best response ever!” and observing, “[Ripa] is proportionally perfect.”

A post celebrating Ripa’s message ultimately received over 320 comments – most strongly in favor of what Ripa had said and done. One user summed it all up, writing, “[This troll] feels pretty stupid right now.” Ripa’s acumen was also picked up by others, with one user posting, “There you go using your big brain in that big head.” And it seemed that most people couldn’t agree more.

Another user spotted some ironic details in the troll’s Instagram profile. “I like how your insta says, ‘Always be yourself, don’t change for anyone,’” they noted. “Empowering words for a judgmental commenter.”

This wouldn’t be the only time that Ripa would shame a shamer though. The comment that Ripa had a big head in fact came in response to a video in which she responded to critics who said that she wore too much makeup. “‘[It] makes you look like a wax figure,’” she said, reading the message out loud. She had the perfect comeback, however.

“I say, ‘No, no, no,’” Ripa explained. “‘I have on way more makeup than a wax figure. I know, because I have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds, and she doesn’t wear this much makeup. But she didn’t get to go to the Academy Awards, did she?’”

Ripa hit back at another poster who accused Consuelos of attempting to boost his stature. The user wrote, “Too bad [Consuelos is] short, when he tries to look taller. It looks funny.” Consuelos was mystified. “Please tell me how it is I can try to look taller,” he wrote. “I’m dying to know.”

Ripa had her own response, though. “He’s tall where it counts babe,” she wrote, to the delight of fans. One user replied, “That’s hysterical!!! Great response… haters gonna hate!!”

Another fan probed Kelly’s self-professed passion for trolling. They wrote, “Kelly, curious to how much you research your trolls as you troll back… and do you ever make comments on said troll’s pics? [Because] that would be epic.” Ripa replied, “It depends on how many grammatical and spelling errors they make while insulting me. I’m never actually offended, I believe everyone has the right to their opinion, but I’m from New Jersey, so I like to mix it up… Oh, and I believe all trolls are beautiful.”

Ripa’s posts regularly get hundreds of comments and tens of thousands of likes – and if commenters have unkind words for her, she’s not afraid to hold back. Indeed, as one fan noted, “No one comes for [Mark Consuelos] and [Kelly Ripa] without consueloscences!”
